By Kilian - Vodka on the Rocks EDP Vodka on the Rocks (“Vodka”) was released By Kilian in 2014.   The fragrance is an interesting aromatic with strong earthy underpinnings. The opening of Vodka is surprisingly much like the initial pour of vodka into a glass of ice.   Through the use of aldehydes, which typically are not a favorite of mine, Kilian manages to replicate the essence of that singular moment.   There is a slight spiciness to the opening with coriander being more prominent than cardamom, but overall the clear alcohol accord comes through. As Vodka wears, I get the bitter rhubarb and rose.   The two are well paired and with the help of Lily of the Valley, a citric floral emerges.   At the same time, I begin to get smoky leathery notes.   On me, the base notes are just smoky enough that I get a vibe of a white incense.   Vodka on the Rocks wears on me for roughly 9 hours with moderate projection. Notes: cardmom, coriande...

Mugler - Aura Mugler EDP Aura Mugler (“Aura”) is an oriental green aromatic with hallmarks of a fruity floral fragrance.   Released in the United States this past Winter, the brand states it is intended to make the wearer “reconnect with (your) inner nature and to unleash all (your) femininity and (your) aura.”   Based on the description, I anticipated an assertive feminine fragrance. Aura opens with an intensely bitter and sour vegetal note.   The bitterness intertwines with a floral that reads on me as orange blossom.   This duel accord floats on my skin for about an hour before the bitterness subsides and the fragrance takes on a softer edge. As Aura wears, I get a complex smokiness and a sweetness that peeks through.   Again, the contrast of the notes is intriguing.   There is a slight medicinal quality that comes through at about the two hour mark.   Typically, a medicinal note is unpleasant to me but in this fragrance, I don’t f...

Kilian - Moonlight in Heaven Moonlight In Heaven (“Moonlight”) is described as an aromatic although in my opinion it has strong similarities with fruity florals.   It was released in 2016.   What is moonlight in heaven?   I ask as the answer to this question would be different for different people and, being the backdrop for this fragrance story, the answers bear relevance to the wearer’s expectations.   Of course here we know the fragrance inspiration since the brand tells us: “A dazzling beam of pearlized light dances on the oceans belly, witnessed by two lovers who watch from a balcony draped in floating white opaque gauze that seems alive, responding to a warm wind that blows. The lovers, high above the world to almost touch the stars, with full hearts and bodies light as air.”   This would not be my answer to the question but then, the fragrance is not my story to tell. So before we even begin our wear, we know that this fragrance will hint of ...

Arno Soreal Paris Solinotes - Vanille EDP Vanille is an aromatic fragrance created with the purpose of wearing on its own or layered with other Solinotes (or other brand) fragrances to create your own personal combination. Vanille wears in a linear way from beginning to end.   The blend of notes creates a delicious soft, sweet, bakery-like vanilla scent.   There is a tempting sweetness to this vanilla that any gourmand-lover should appreciate.   There is at one time a light powdery feel to the vanilla and at the same time a creaminess.   Vanille feels very much like a hug or snuggle of vanilla.   Vanille wears on me for roughly 5 hours with moderate moving to soft projection. Notes: Vanilla, White Flowers, Tonka Bean, White spices Ingredients:   Alcohol Denat , Aqua , Parfum , Octocrylene, Homosalate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Cinnamyl Alcohol, Ci...

Viktor & Rolf - Magic Sage Spell Tonight I am testing Magic Sage Spell by Viktor&Rolf.  I want to extend my thanks to Kenisha Mason of Saks Fifth Avenue for the sample. When I thought of sage, my mind instantly went to Thanksgiving and preparing my turkey dinner; particularly the stuffing.  Sage is not something I would have sought out in a fragrance so the fact that Marie Salamagne decided to not only use sage but make it the focus of a fragrance is, in my opinion, creative at the least.  This juice opens with a bold sage paired with a subtle mint.  The two taken together create an aromatic that is a piece of both but unlike either.  The sage retains its herbal quality but is lifted to a new freshness.  There is a strong green quality to the opening.  There is the slightest hint of grapefruit about fifteen minutes in that lends a tartness and brightness.  Pink pepper brings in a bit of spice.  The pepper is not detectabl...

Gallagher Fragrances:  Carpe Cafe I've been so busy with work, I apologize that I don't have time to do review(s) of these justice. I wanted to post something though so a few quick thoughts. Carpe Cafe - Opening for me was like having a latte in the woods. Absolutely as if I had a creamy coffee. I could smell the cypress and fir. The vanilla faded on me and the scent wore on me as a light coffee over an ambery labdanum. The myrrh and sandalwood were softer and in the background. This lasted on me for 8 hours before I could no longer smell it. Top Notes: Colombian Coffee, French Vanilla Middle Notes: Cypress, Fir Needle Bottom Notes: Amber, Labdanum, Myrrh, Sandalwood

Berdous: Assam of India Would like to post a "full review" of this aromatic fragrance, but honestly, this smells like straight up lemon black tea on me. I don't really get the sandalwood into play until the drydown when this fragrance becomes slightly creamy. It's another soft, light fragrance with little projection. "In Assam of India, Citron from Menton, tea from India, and sandalwood from Mysore join together in a unique blend to enhance and complement the natural elegance of tea leaves." Top note is lemon; middle note is indian tea; base note is sandalwood.
