M. Micallef - The Art Collection Vanille:  Vanille Marine In 2012, M. Micallef launched the special edition – The Art Collection Vanille.  The collection is comprised of 4 fragrances each pairing sweet vanilla with another specific note.  Vanille Marine (“Vanille”) pairs vanilla with the aquatic fragrance family and creates an aromatic aquatic that shows the “watery” side of vanilla. Vanille opens with fresh, minerally, fruity floral notes paired with a delicately sweet vanilla.  The fruits are bright and sunny in feel.  The often sharp lemon is tempered with a rich juicy blackberry.  The white flowers are sweetened with a slightly boozy vanilla.  The white florals and vanilla are more present than the fruits.  There is a creaminess to the opening that exists despite the light airiness.  As Vanille wears, there is a beachy feel to the notes.  You can almost feel the salty ocean breeze and the sun shining down.  Ther...

Tokyo Milk Dark - Novacaine No. 85 Eau de Parfum Novacaine is an aromatic spicy fragrance that launched in 2016.   Novacaine opens with a warm, spicy ginger and smoky frankincense with a touch of a sweet vanilla orchid.   There is a kind of a Fall-like heated potpourri feel.   The spicy notes counterbalance the soft vanilla; this prevents the fragrance from becoming cloying.   As Novacaine wears, it becomes slightly more earthy with a dry heat.   The vanilla comes forward somewhat and the spice becomes a more rounded accord.   Beyond this, I get no additional development with the fragrance.   In the drydown, the fragrance retains a cozy, yet somewhat unconventional spiced tone. Novacaine wears on me with soft projection for roughly 5 hours. Jo Loves - Red Truffle 21 A Fragrance Paintbrush Anyone who knows me personally knows one thing for certain and that is – I love amusing things.  So when Jo Malone (as Jo Loves) came out with a fragrance paintbrush, there was no doubt I HAD to try it.  The fragrance itself, Red Truffle 21, is not new; only the delivery format. So just a quick review about Red Truffle 21 for those not familiar.  The original juice was released 2 years ago (2015) and it is categorized as an aromatic spicy.  The fragrance opens with a fairly intense green and earthy vibe.  I get a good dose of pine (as in pine needles and not the bark or sap) accompanied by the earthy tuber note.  I really took a chance on this as fig is a bit of a hit or miss note for me.  In the case of Red Truffle 21, the fig note is present but I don’t find it to be difficult.  What Jo Loves has done with the fig is used a green fig and not a fully ripe fig note.  This makes all the...
