Twisted Wonderland Perfumery - Mad Tea Party Perfume Oil Mad Tea Party is a straightforward tea fragrance form Twisted Wonderland Perfumery.   The wear is linear so “what you see is what you get”.   It is, however, one of the best renditions of tea in an Indie fragrance in my opinion.   The perfumer has done a very good job at capturing that quintessential Earl Grey tea smell.   You get that classic almost citrusy – bergamot tea note.   the note is blended, as one might drink their tea, with a slightly sweet, creamy vanilla.   The effect is soft and soothing without becoming cloying.   Mad Tea party wears on me with soft projection for roughly 5 – 6 hours. Notes: “Okay..well just half a cup! Freshly brewed earl grey tea with just a splash of sugary vanilla milk” Perfumer: Rae Ganter CRUELTY FREE VEGAN

Twisted Wonderland Perfumery - Never Sleep Again (Perfume Oil) Never Sleep Again (“Never Sleep”) is the second Twisted Wonderland fragrances I’ve tested.   (You can read my review of What’s In The Hookah here: https://binxcat4ever.blogspot.com/2018/05/twisted-wonderland-perfumery-whats-in.html ).   Never Sleep is very different from What’s In The Hookah but no less enjoyable. I selected Never Sleep to test based on the notes.   Oh, I a am a fan off coffee in fragrance!   Combined with the touch of vanilla and dark chocolate, Never Sleep is a gourmand lover’s delight.   While Never Sleep is a “what you see is what you get” scent, the lack of development is not a flaw.   From the initial whiff, I get a gorgeous, lush coffee.   It is a dark roast and freshly ground.   The bit of vanilla adds just the right amount of light sweetness.   The dark chocolate compliments the coffee and vanilla in an almost bakery frosting kind of way.  ...

Kiss My Sass Cosmetics – Rainforest Fairies (perfume oil) In the March 2018 release of Rainforest Fairies (“Rainforest”), Kiss My Sass gives us a vision of the fairy world secreted deep inside a rainforest.   Rainforest opens with a tart and juicy blackberry paired with a lightly dirty patchouli.   There is an immediate sense of deep, dark, rich depth and lushness.   You can feel the loam under your feet while all around you, life springs in abundance.   Entering into the mix come moss and fern.   They add a further damp greenness to the woody points in the fragrance.   The wet notes do not hold Rainforest down; they are coupled with a lightly sweet and creamy vanilla which serves to add an ethereal quality.   There is a play between extremes and yet the duality of the fragrance does not inhibit its beauty.   In the drydown, whispers of jasmine appear as each of the other notes soften into the background. Rainforest wears on me f...

January Scent Project - Treebuoy Parfum Oil When I heard that perfumer John Biebel had added another fragrance to his lineup, it piqued my interest.   Currently available as an exclusive with Avé Parfum and later available on the January Scent Project website, Treebuoy (2018) is an oriental woody fragrance offering. It’s no secret that I am a fan of Biebel as a perfumer.   An artist in addition to a perfumer, his approach to fragrance is that of an artist (this is not to say that I don’t respect perfumery as an art form in itself).   It’s one thing to create a beautiful fragrance and quite another to create a beautiful fragrance which also tells a story or shares a journey or perspective; I find Biebel’s scents to fall into the second category. With Treebuoy, Biebel tells us the story of a dense conifer forest.   Like any good storyteller, Biebel makes us a part of the story; this is a personal journey.   I get the rich balsam fir with it’s deep, r...

Solstice Scents - Violet Mallow (Perfume Oil) Some time ago, I was lucky enough to have some friends in the UK send me several rolls of Parma Violet candies.  Being in the US, I was enthralled and intrigued by the notion of the little violet confections that I’d never seen on this side of the pond.  The fond memories of those candies, made me want to try the Solstice Scents gourmand rift on violet – Violet Mallow. Violet Mallow opens with a bold, powdery (Parma candy-like) violet note layered on top of a sweet, puffy marshmallow.  The sweetness of the marshmallow tames the boldness of the violet and creates a delectable, almost creamy violet note.  About 2 hours into wear, the violet softens.  Vanilla bean and musk begin to appear.  The vanilla and musk are mild but present enough that you know they’re there.  Through the course of the 7 hour wear, the violet remains present throughout.  The moderate projection softens to a light one and ...

Solstice Scents - Owl Creek Aleworks Perfume Oil It’s a bit of a cool and overcast day today and I’m testing another “fall” vibe fragrance – Owl Creek Aleworks.  This scent opens with a caramel-laden toasted hazelnut.  The scent is sweet and rich.  About 30 minutes in, I begin to get a creamy coconut.  The coconut is not a tropical feel one but instead the kind of coconut note you get when baking with coconut and condensed milk.  There is a pumpkin pie spice note to the fragrance that really begins to bloom about an hour into wear.  At the two hour mark, the hazelnut seems to fade and the remaining wear (and drydown) is a Fall gourmand delight of sweet toffee topped with a pumpkin-spiced coconut cream.  I get 4 hours of wear with this fragrance with a moderate projection. Notes:  Sticky English Toffee Pudding, Blackburn's Parlor Vanilla Ice Cream, Caramel, Toasted Coconut & Hazelnut, Sugared Pumpkin Cream Stout.
