Twisted Wonderland Perfumery - What’s In The Hookah I enjoy supporting Indie and Niche brands of fragrance.   When I first heard about Twisted Wonderland Perfumery I felt an immediate connection to the brand name.   For me, and many others, fragrance is a means of expression.   It’s a way to express a moment, a mood, a personality.   It’s a way to transport yourself to a different place and time.   The brand name alone speaks to the child in us – full of excitement and wonder.   I took the advantage of placing an order for several samples.   What’s In The Hookah (“Hookah”) is the first I’ll be reviewing. Tobacco is a favorite note of mine and Hookah is all about the tobacco.   The fragrance opens with a glorious woody pipe tobacco.   It is so deep and full of life you can almost feel it swirling around you.   If you love the smell of pipe tobacco, this is one you will want to keep inhaling…slowly and deliberately.   As Hoo...

Acqua di Parma - Peonia Nobile Peonia Nobile (“Peonia”) is characterized as a floral.  Right off the bat, I want to say that to my nose this fragrance wears more as a fruity floral on my skin.  That said, Peonia opens with a fresh, tart, rose-tinged peony dipped in a succulent sweet raspberry.  Acqua di Parma characterizes the opening as one with a vibrant black pepper accent with soft raspberry; on me it’s quite the opposite.  The initial few hours of wear feel decidedly “pink” and luminous.  There is an authenticity to the raspberry note; there are no artificial leanings at all.  While certainly I get nuances of black pepper, the opening is all about the decadently rich fruity floral. This juice wears as the same fruity floral for roughly 3 hours when I begin to get a boost of brightness from the geranium.  The geranium, and in fact the heart of this juice, seems quite short-lived as by the 4 hour mark, the moodier base notes seem to ris...

Emporio Armani - Because It's You Because It’s You was a floral fruity blind buy for me.  An admitted romantic at heart, I was drawn in by the brand story line: “Because It’s You is happy, delicious and sparkling: simply irresistible like a ripe raspberry in its perfect and most elegant naturalness when combined with neroli notes. What does this tantalizing young woman hide in her heart? The fragrance is unabashedly feminine, full, instinctive and passionate. Her charm is immediately apparent, like the addictive and sophisticated rose absolute scent. The fragrance plays with her powers of seduction as vanilla mixes with musk, revealing a complex and incredibly deep sensuality. Bold and immediately captivating, her fragrance expresses the urgency of a love that takes every chance to declare itself: BECAUSE IT’S YOU. Discover the power of two with  Stronger With You - For Him . The two fragrances have an alliance that balance & empower each other, as symbol ...

Le Jardin Retrouve: Tubereuse Trianon ( Michel Gutsatz ) I am about to gush. What an absolutely sexy, gorgeous interpretation of tuberose! With Tubereuse Trianon I get a succulent creamy, sweet tuberose. I get a jasmine that seems to pull a bit like plumeria as it mixes with a soft raspberry. The ylang-ylang is rich and deep. I don't get the coriander as an individual note but rather feel as if it anchors the tuberose from becoming too sharp. This juice would be such an easy scent to wear even for those who shy away from an often garish tuberose. Tuberose Trianon is the potion of liaisons; a fragrance that beckons. "1689. You are headed towards the Trianon in the Versailles garden where the King has had a profusion of flowerbeds planted. It is evening. You pass by a group of courtesans. A gaze pierces you. In its wake, the heady scent of tuberose, mingled with jasmine and ylang-ylang, and as though veiled, the unexpected trace of raspberry. Your heart just encountered lo...

4160 Tuesdays New York 1955 EDP It's Friday. You've been working hard all week but still have one more day to go. Your hands clutch the steering wheel, knuckles white, as you stare at the never ending sea of traffic on the Belt Parkway; the cacophony of honking horns ringing in your ears. Then suddenly, as if by magic,  Sarah McCartney   takes you by the hand and transports you from the madness to Coney Island. You find yourself strolling the boardwalk. You hear the waves of the Atlantic lapping in the distance. Cotton candy in hand you stroll to the Parachute Jump; you feel the wind in your hair. Time stands still as you breathe in the sweet raspberry floss, the soft and delicate flowers, and the creaminess of the vanilla and somehow everything seems right with the world. Top note is cotton candy; middle notes are raspberry, rose and violet; base notes are vanilla and musk.
